When she went to live in São Paulo, the Carioca photographer Julia Assis noticed how much she missed her city and so she didn’t think twice. She got Dois Irmãos and the Arcos da Lapa tatooed on her to remember her love for the city forever.
This was the beginning of a story that became the book Rio, eu tatuo, which shows several scenes from Rio de Janeiro reproduced on the skin of residents of Rio, São Paulo, Bahia and everyone that likes the wonderful city and its multicultural lifestyle.
But gathering these images wasn’t easy. Julia at first asked people about their acquaintances, but after the project began to get noticed in the media, her work got easier and people started to look for tattoos for her book on her behalf.
“Everyone was very excited about the idea of the book, since tattooing the city landscape shows people’s love for Rio, so they want to show it,” she says. – Source (PT)
